Container Filters

This section describes how to create filters and use them to find and filter containers in XPS client views and container lists.

With the XPS client you find containers that share specific attributes by using container filters. A container filter is a tool that searches the N4 database for all containers that share specific criteria. For example, you may have a filter called Empty Reefers which was defined to look for empty reefers anywhere in the terminal. If you use this filter, the XPS client can generate a list or recap of all empty reefers in the terminal.

You create a filter using the Find Container (on page 1) dialog, which lets you specify over 30 attribute-based criteria, such as Port of Discharge, Equipment Type, Line Operator, and so on.

Filters can be general or specific, depending on how you decide to set the criteria. For example, you can create one filter to find all hazardous containers. You could then refine this filter to only include containers that contain materials with certain IMO codes. Filters can be saved and modified, and reused as necessary.

You would use filters for the following tasks:

One of the features of using filters is that the XPS client automatically updates container lists generated from filters. For example, if you generate a list of all hazardous containers in the yard, the list will automatically include new hazardous containers as they enter the yard (as recorded in the XPS client). Similarly, if a hazardous container leaves the yard, it will be removed from the list.

After creating and saving a filter, you can use that filter to highlight containers in lists and in many views. Containers that do not match the filter's criteria are grayed out. For more information, see Filtering containers in views and lists (on page 1).
